Manipputtu / Steamed Rice Dumplings In Coconut Milk

Mom was thinking of a delicious sweet from her childhood, a dessert made with rice dumplings, called paaliyappam.Making Manipputtu was the first stage, which we loved than the paaliyappam.
Taking coconut milk has been considered as a threat to cholesterol patients nowadays, which we don't believe! Am already getting lots of threatening comments because of my
coconut-oil blog, (also some very nice comments) whatever it is we take much coconut from morning to night, in the form of coconut oil, coconut milk, grated coconut, chammanthi / chutney, in fish or vegetable curries, for evening snacks etc...! No way to give up our delicious lovely fruit! :)

Mani puttu ingredients
rice powder 1 cup
water 1 cup or less
coconut milk medium thick 1 bowl
cardamoms 1 or 2
sugar
salt

How to prepare
Boil water in a pan.
Add little salt.
Pour this to rice powder.
Mix and when warm, make dough with that.
(You can do this as we do for making idiyappams / noolputtu).
Make small balls with that, apply little oil on palms if needed while making.
Steam them in a idli vessel.
Keep aside.
Take thick coconut milk from the fresh grated coconut.
Add crushed cardamoms to it.
Mix sugar.
Pour the steamed rice dumplings directily to the coconut milk.
Let it soak in the coconut-milk.
Later serve in small bowls with spoons.
